Mayor Anderson Calls for More Public Comment on UTA Proposal

(KCPW News) Proposed changes to bus routes in Salt Lake City have another skeptic. Mayor Rocky Anderson is asking the Utah Transit Authority to take more comment from the public before finalizing the route changes.

"I think we just need to do a better job with public information," says Anderson. "You know if they're going to be able to provide service, but just changing bus routes and consolidating them, they need to let people know that because there is a lot of anxiety behind this."

UTA received more than two-thousand comments from the public during hearings that ended last week. Mayor Anderson has sent a letter to UTA asking for more time to hear the public's concerns. He says he's heard from bus riders who will no longer have a way to get to work if the changes take effect. He also received a letter from businesses west of the airport who are upset that service may be cut for their employees.

Anderson says he's not opposed to making the bus system more efficient, but thinks UTA needs to do a better job explaining the changes to the public.
