SL City Council Opens Door to Skybridge on Main Street

(KCPW News) The LDS Church insists a skybridge over Main Street is crucial to the success of its massive City Creek Mall. City officials are less certain, but still handed the Church an important victory last night. KCPW's Julie Rose reports.
Developers of the City Creek Center are a big step closer to getting their skybridge over Main Street, connecting two sides of their massive proposed mall. Last night, the Salt Lake City Council voted 6 to 1 to amend the downtown master plan in favor of a possible skybridge.
Next the city Planning Commission will consider a design for the pedestrian walkway, but the plan will ultimately return to the City Council for approval. Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson says the walkway will end any hopes of vitality on Main Street, and he's vowed to reject the proposal. But last night's vote suggests enough support to override a mayoral veto.
