Lieutenant Governor's Office Anticipating Signatures from County Clerks
(KCPW News) County clerks have until tomorrow to certify all of the signatures submitted for voter referendums on vouchers and the soccer stadium. Lieutenant Governor's Chief of Staff Joe Demma says 9 or 10 counties have already submitted their certified lists. On April 30th, the Lieutenant Governor will announce whether either referendum received enough signatures to land on the ballot. Then, Legislative Research and General Counsel will have 15 days to write the ballot language. If voucher opponents are unhappy with the language, they can challenge it in court. Utahns for Public Schools spokesperson Lindsay Zizumbo says the group is expecting the language to be impartial and clear for voters. But, she adds, the group has a team of lawyers ready to fight "whatever battle is going to happen." Demma says the Governor can take as much time as he wants to put the referendum up for election.
On Friday, a Governor's spokesperson said Huntsman is leaning toward adding the voucher issue to the presidential primary ballot in February.

We can only hope that whatever decisions are made in the seats of power, the first priority is to respond to the voices of the citizens who oppose these two measures. I hope they remember that those signing the petitions weren't signing them against a particular bill(although HB148 was named in the language). They were opposed to the concept of having private school vouchers period - until taxpayers could vote one way or the other.
