Henry's Law May Be Reconsidered

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Cries from animal rights activists have apparently been heard loud and clear by Governor Jon Huntsman Junior. Huntsman is considering adding further discussion of Henry's Law to his agenda for a special session of the Utah legislature.

Henry's Law would make abuse of a household pet a felony in Utah. Gene Baierschmidt, Executive Director of the Utah Humane Society, says there is a direct link between people who abuse animals and future violence towards people. A total of 43 states now have felony animal cruelty laws after Kansas and Hawaii recently passed similar legislation.

Henry's Law would be included as part of a possible special session that would include authorizing an election for the school voucher referendum.
