Mayor Wants To Celebrate Salt Lake's Diversity

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Salt Lake City's Office of Minority Affairs has been renamed the Office of Diversity by Mayor Rocky Anderson. Anderson says he made the name change in an effort to increase the positive promotion of the city's ethnic diversity.

Administrator Josie Valdez says the goal of the office is to instill a feeling of pride, dignity, and respect amongst Utah's ethnic communities. She encourages people to become involved in community events and organizations because it will allow others to become familiar with cultures in a non-threatening fashion, therefore changing negative attitudes.

The Office of Diversity is offering a "Positive Imaging" program consisting of leadership training, a speakers bureau, and good neighbor and refugee resource guides.
