Corroon Says Stadium Costs Likely Lower Than $35 Million

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says he will not sign an inter-local agreement between the state and Sandy City to move $35 million in hotel taxes towards construction of a soccer stadium for ReAl Salt Lake.

Corroon gives two reasons for this decision. He doesn't want to agree to something he has already rejected, and he doesn't think the land and the parking lot for the stadium costs $35 million. Corroon says his negotiations with the team put those costs in the upper $20 million range. He suspects the rest of the money may be used to build a hotel or a broadcast studio.

Governor Jon Huntsman has promised to make the financial details of the agreement public, however Corroon won't push the Governor to keep that pledge. He believes Sandy city will eventually release the details.
