Superintendents Join College Boards as a Bridge to Public Ed

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) For the first time in Utah history, Governor Huntsman has appointed the State School Superintendent as a full voting member of the Board of Regents for higher education. Huntsman says it's time for Utah create more continuity between public and higher education:

"Because we're talking about the K-16 Alliance and ultimately integrating public and higher ed," says Huntsman. "So for me, the first step was getting some superintendents in the areas that naturally feed into some of our colleges on the governance boards of these colleges."

State Superintendent Patti Harrington will join the state's decision-making body for higher education. Huntsman also appointed superintendents from several school districts across the state to sit on the boards of UVSC, the College of Eastern Utah, Snow College, Dixie State, Southern Utah University and Salt Lake Community College. Huntsman says the move aims at making sure public school students are well-prepared for, and have ample opportunity for, post-secondary education.
