State Lacks an Effective Shield Law
(KCPW News) It's a romantic scene from the movies or television, a reporter defying a judge's order and refusing to name a source in a story, and spending time in jail. In reality, that doesn't happen all that often - but it is a distinct possibility, especially in Utah. Reporters here are not afforded a level of protection to keep them from being forced to reveal sources in court - but critics say it's not needed. KCPW's Bryan Schott reports on Utah's lack of a shield law.
