Group Claims Utahns Consume Too Much
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) Based on the food we eat, the size of our homes, the cars we drive and products we buy, Utahns are using more than their fair share of the Earth's resources. That's the gist of analysis by the Utah Population Environment Coalition, which is affiliated with a number of environmental and interfaith groups advocating less consumption.Spokesperson Sandra McIntyre says if everyone in the world consumed at the rate Utahns do, it would take five planet Earths to meet the need. Her group analyzed data from Utah's population, transportation, building and consumption patterns to determine that citizens of the Beehive State are exceeding the Earth's capacity by 11 percent. That's on par with national data suggesting that the U.S. is a top consumer of the Earth's renewable resources. Determine your personal ecological footprint online at www.myfootprint.org.
