Local Immigrants Planning Next Move

None by Eric Ray

Series of Meetings Planned

(KCPW News) Local immigration activists are planning statewide meetings to discuss what their next move should be following the failure of the Immigration Bill in the Senate several weeks ago.

The first meeting was held in Salt Lake City last night. Tony Yapias of the Utah Latino Project says the majority of the families at the meeting are not necessarily looking to become citizens. Instead, they simply want to be able to live and work in the U.S.

Yapias says for now any immigration reform will need to take place at the local level. They'll push Utah lawmakers on several issues, and keeping the driving privilege card is near the top of the list.

According to Yapias, more than 400 groups nationwide also plan to organize at the local level.
