Corroon Not Sure Time Is Right To Vote On District Split
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon wants citizens to be able to make an informed decision before they vote on splitting the Jordan and Granite School Districts. Therefore, Corroon says it may be better to put the issue off a year.Corroon says it's possible the west side will be left holding the bag of capital costs when it comes to the construction of new schools. He adds the belief that a split will reduce class sizes is false, and he is concerned a split would create additional special-education teacher shortages.
Corroon has asked the county's district attorney to determine if he can veto the County Council if they vote to put the issue on the ballot. He is still waiting for an answer. A County Council vote on the districts split could happen on July 31st.
