SLCC Administrators Hit the Phones to Recruit Students

(KCPW News) Don't be too surprised if you pick up the phone this week to find Salt Lake Community College President Cynthia Bioteau on the line. She and other SLCC administrators are making hundreds of personal calls to try and reverse a dip in the school's enrollment, according to School Relations Director Jill Kemerer:

"Enrollment is everybody's business here at the college,"says Kemerer. "And these administrators seem to enjoy it. They think 'I'll make a few calls and maybe get a student or a parent on the phone and encourage their son or daughter to register for classes. And I think it shows how committed they are to making sure students know what Salt Lake Community College is all about."

Kemerer estimates SLCC administrators and students have already made 10-thousand personal calls to potential students, most of whom are past students at the college or people who completed applications but did not register. She says the school will make another 30-thousand personal calls in the next month.

In addition, President Bioteau has recorded an automated message that will hit 26-thousand phones in the coming weeks. Kemerer says the community college's outreach efforts are unprecedented, but warranted given a statewide decline in higher education enrollment.
