Pledges All Resources to "Put Lives First" in Rescue Effort
(KCPW News) Governor Jon Huntsman says he will assign all resources necessary to assist rescue efforts in a collapsed mine near Huntington, Utah:"This is obviously a situation that concerns me and every other Utahn greatly right now," says Huntsman. "We're going to expend any resource we have and go to any effort to make sure that lives are put first and foremost."
Six miners are unaccounted for after a coal mine caved-in early this morning just five miles from the epicenter of a minor earthquake. A spokesman for the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration says the miners are believed to be 15-hundred feet below the surface. Rescuers are within about 25-hundred feet of the miners' presumed location.
Governor Huntsman will receive an emergency briefing at the collapsed Genwal Mine this afternoon.
