$1.4 M not enough for treatment, advocates say
(KCPW News) The Utah Coalition Against Sexual Violence is pushing for legislation that would establish the first stream of state funding for sexual assault victims, according to Laurel Duncan, director of the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault.UCASA is the host of a seminar Thursday at the Salt Lake City Library teaching Utahns to lobby their state legislators about the issue.
Currently, federal dollars pay for sexual assault forensics examinations. Ron Gordon at the Office of Crime Victims Reparation says the state paid out more than $600,000 for the exams in fiscal 2007. The victim treatment fund being proposed for the 2008 legislative session would help victims pay for more medical care, relocation services and counseling.
Learn how to lobby your legislators for the Victim Treatment Fund and Sex Offender Treatment Fund Thursday from 1PM to 4:30PM at the downtown City Library.
