SLC Mayor Anderson To Hold Town Hall Meeting

(KCPW News) Utah leads the nation in non-medical use of prescription drugs. This fact has caused many in the medical community to call abuse of prescription drugs an epidemic in the state.

Abbie Vianes, Coordinator for the Salt Lake City Mayor's Coalition on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, says abuse of prescription drugs by teenagers is of particular concern. She says youth often have the misperception that prescription drugs are safe because doctors prescribe them.

Vianes has helped organize a Town Hall Meeting about prescription drug abuse tomorrow night at the Salt Lake City Library. Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson, as well as experts on and survivors of prescription drug abuse will be among the speakers. The meeting starts at 7pm and will air live on KCPW.
