Jordan Board of Ed Stays Neutral on District Split
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) The Jordan School District is caught in a three-way tug-of-war. East side cities are planning to splinter off into a smaller district. West Jordan is mulling it's own secession. And West side cities worry they'll be left wanting. Through it all, the Jordan Board of Education insists it's Switzerland. KCPW's Julie Rose reports:
District spokesperson Melinda Colton says the board members have strong personal opinions on the proposed split, but will not take an official board position "out of respect for the wishes of East-side city officials. Instead, Colton says the Jordan District is creating a resource of facts and figures on the proposed splits to help voters navigate a growing list of possible outcomes. Meanwhile, at least one West side city has announced plans to sue for the right to have its voters included in the split election. Current law only allows residents of the new, smaller district to vote on the issue.
