Utah's Economy Attracts Undocumented Immigrants

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Immigration reform may have reached a stalemate in congress, but Minutemen and undocumented workers in Utah can agree on one thing: The lack of economic opportunity abroad is the No. 1 reason people illegally cross the border to work in the Beehive State.

The Citizen Council on Immigration met three times last month and presented their findings during Salt Lake City's Democracy Week, which ends Saturday.

The committee discussed law enforcement, border security and other immigration issues that have big economic consequences for Salt Lake. City officials developed the concept for Democracy Week after Congress failed to pass immigration legislation in August.

The consequences are for those that illegally employ illegal aliens because it directly affects their profit margin; no other reason. Back when there wasn't a problem with illegal immigration crops still got picked, people still stayed in hotels and ate in restaurants just like today. It is the greed of the employers that promote this argument.

Illegal aliens cost the tax payer much more in social welfare programs and education for the "anchor" babies than the 25 cents saved on a head of lettuce becuase farmers will not raise wages high enough to entice legal citizens to pick the fields. Same goes for the construction industry and manufacturing.
