Rocky Endorses Ralph Becker for SLC Mayor

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Mayor Rocky Anderson wanted businessman Keith Christensen to succeed him as Salt Lake City chief. But now he's backing a new guy:

"I'm a huge fan of Ralph Becker," says Anderson. "He would be a good mayor. He's smart. He's committed. And he's had a lot of good experience. He has a very forward-looking optimistic attitude."

Ralph Becker's positions on urban planning and environmentally-friendly policies align closely with those Anderson has championed. Furthermore, Anderson has been very critical of Becker's opponent - City Councilman Dave Buhler - with whom he has had a number of high-profile disagreements at City Hall.

Becker had the strongest lead in the primary election with 39 percent of the votes. Anderson's early endorsement helped Keith Christensen raise significant funds, but the former city councilman only ended up with eight-percent of the primary vote.

I voted for Becker last night, and I just hope this "backing" form Rocky doesn't affect to many of Becker's voters.

2. Justin said:

Yes, Rocky should offer a "strategic endorsement" of Buhler, thereby assuring a Becker victory in November.

3. Jan said:

"Off His Rocker Rocky" was the kiss of death for Keith Christensen. Becker should claim the only Rocky he knows of is Rocky Balboa. I'm floored when the local pollster claims Anderson has high numbers, they must be calling 600 people from a specific, strategically selected area of town, because the majority of Salt Lakers I know claim to be fed up with his pretending to care about Salt Lake when his goal is to replace Howard "ARGHHHH" Dean.
