Partisan Politics Play a Role In SLC Mayor's Race
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Technically, the race for Salt Lake City Mayor is non-partisan. That said, Democrats have held the position for more than three decades.Lawmaker Ralph Becker, who received more than 38% of the vote during yesterday's primary, is a Democrat. He says there is no question his party affiliation is an advantage because Salt Lake City is nearly two to one Democratic.
Becker's opponent, Republican City Councilman Dave Buhler, believes there has been a shift away from partisan politics and voters just want the best man for the job. Buhler also stresses that issues the mayor of Salt Lake City deals with are non-partisan issues.
The general election is slated for November 6th. To listen to a conversation with the candidates for Salt Lake City Mayor, download a podcast of today's Midday Metro.
