New Scrutiny for The Leonardo

(KCPW News) The Salt Lake City Council wants an outside opinion of The Leonardo's business plan before it agrees to fill a 14-million dollar funding gap for the museum. KCPW's Julie Rose explains:
The Salt Lake City Council has hired international consulting firm Economics Research Associates to assess The Leonardo's viability. Council member Jill Remington Love says the council is reluctant to spend more until it is confident The Leonardo's plan will be successful.
Salt Lake City has already committed 10-million dollars through a voter-approved bond, but original estimates to upgrade the old Main Library building fall short of today's construction costs.
The Leonardo director Mary Tull has enlisted the help of science museum directors around the country to improve the business plan for Salt Lake's own science and arts center. Science museum directors in Portland, Wichita and Washington, D.C., are among The Leonardo's national advisors.
Tull says The Leonardo's revised business plan is solid and "defendable."
