Kennecott Land Tour On County Council Agenda

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Salt Lake County's entire west bench along the Oquirrh Mountains lies in the hands of a single owner: Kennecott Land. Tuesday the County Council will tour the land - including the site of a proposed ski resort and several major planned communities. Kennecott Land Vice President Jim Shulte says the county has a unique opportunity:

"Usually jurisidictions are looking with dozens - even hundreds - of landowners, and coordinating that process can be difficult at best," says Shulte. "Here we have a single government entity and a single landowner that have the ability to develop a vision that could span 50 to 75 years."

For more than two years, Salt Lake County has been working with Kennecott on a long-range plan for the company's 80-thousand acres on the west bench. Shulte says Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and other County staff have already toured the area. This will be the first full tour for members of the Salt Lake County Council.
