Mountain View Corridor One Step Closer to Reality
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) The Mountain View Corridor is one step closer to reality. UDOT this week released a draft study identifying the west-side road's potential impacts on wetlands, air quality and ever-increasing traffic congestion:"We've come up with a solution that includes both roadway and transit that we think will deal with that (west side) growth and allow us to minimize the congestion we're seeing," says Mountain View Corridor project manager Teri Newell.
Newell says UDOT's preferred route will run down 5800 West, with a transit option along 5600 West that could include light rail or dedicated bus lanes. Newell says the road will cost between two and three billion dollars, and officials have yet to decide if it will be a built as a toll road.
The public is invited to comment on the draft environmental impact statement until December 24th. Newell says construction could begin on the Mountain View Corridor in 2009.
