Midday Utah begins after the 9 a.m. news

Six in ten Republican voters polled in early October by Wall Street Journal-NBC News agreed with a statement that free trade has been bad for the U.S. economy. Mark Weisbrot says that the term "free trade" is deceptive, and that the best way to evaluate trade is by looking at who losses and who gains from it. Mark Weisbrot is an economist and the co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy research in Washington, D.C. His column titled "Why the ‘Free Trade' Agenda is Losing Steam," appeared October 11th on numerous web sites, including CommonDreams.org.

You've probably heard the news about lead in lipstick. But the issue of toxics in personal care products goes well beyond that headline. Stacy Malkan explains why the cosmetics industry is in desperate need of a makeover in her new book titled Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry. Stacy Malkan is Communications Director of Health Care without Harm, a media strategist and co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
