SLC Mayoral Candidates Debate West Side Retail
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) The lack of grocery stores and other retail outlets in Salt Lake City's west side neighborhoods has long bothered residents there. The topic of how to improve west side retail became a subject of debate between the city's mayoral candidates this morning.Ralph Becker says barriers have been built around west side communities and that change is coming too slowly. He says running the west-bound TRAX line along North Temple will help. Becker adds reworking neighborhood plans is important in order to identify areas where local businesses can be successful.
Becker's opponent, Dave Buhler, also believes the North Temple TRAX line will generate more opportunities for retail and housing on the west side. Buhler adds he plans to provide more retail opportunities in Rose Park.
A full version of today's debate is available here. The General Election will be held next Tuesday, November 6th.
