State lawmaker Ralph Becker sweeps to victory

Salt Lake City's three-decade tradition of electing a Democrat to the city's top post continues. State lawmaker Ralph Becker is the next mayor of Utah's capitol city. Becker swept through the final round of the mayor's race taking 63 percent of the vote. The result was a familiar one for Dave Buhler, who was also the runner-up to Deedee Corradini in 1991's mayoral election. Becker won with a campaign that emphasized his background as an urban planner. Next up for Becker is choosing the staff he will take with him when he moves into the corner office at city hall in January.
