Crypto Cases on the Decline
(KCPW News) Utah health officials have lifted swimming pool restrictions because of a reduction in new cases of the water-borne illness Cryptosporidiosis. The state has averaged just 30 cases of Crypto per year over the last seven years, but this year there were more than 1,900 cases.Utah Department of Health Epidemiologist Rich Lakin says the department will study each case investigation in an attempt to figure out why the outbreak happened. Lakin adds health officials won't hesitate to reinstate the restrictions if Crypto starts creeping back into public pools.
The UDOH is asking for public cooperation to prevent another outbreak. Anyone suffering from diarrhea should refrain from swimming for up to two weeks following the illness.
