"Divine Strake a Bad Idea"
(KCPW News) Blowing up 700 tons of explosives at the Nevada Test Site next month is NOT a good idea, according to Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Junior. The Department of Defense test known as "Divine Strake" is meant to find out how much explosives are needed to reach an underground bunker. Utah Senators Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch have expressed concern that the test could stir up radioactive material dangerous to Utahns downwind. Department of Defense officials insist that will not be the case.Huntsman won't go so far as to condemn nuclear testing in general, but says he doesn't want it done at the Nevada site. Rather, he says the testing should be done somewhere else, where citizens who've previously suffered nuclear fallout are not downwind. The governor says he is not yet actively lobbying Washington to stop the test, but will step in if necessary.
