(KCPW News) Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson bid farewell to the City Council last night with a short speech calling attention to his administration's accomplishments over the last eight years. He touched on everything from environmental polices to public safety and business development. And Anderson offered a litany of thanks "to those who have helped us become the most accessible, open, accountable government in the history of this City."
"In short," continued Anderson. "To all city employeees, residents and others who have made this a more exciting, more welcoming, more liveable city for all."
Anderson did not mention his often-tense relationship with the City Council. In turn, the City Council thanked the Mayor with a first-edition copy of The Jungle by muckraking journalist Upton Sinclair. It seemed a subtle nod to Anderson's penchant for speaking his mind and tackling tough issues. Anderson was visibly touched, quipping "It beats a plaque." as the audience stood to applaud.
