Budget Compromise to Help Fund Criminal Justice Master Plan

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon agreed yesterday to cut $50,000 from his budget initiatives as part of a compromise with the County Council.

Corroon says that money will now be put towards the costs of a new Criminal Justice Master Plan for the county. However, he says he isn't yet sure which of his initiatives he will cut. He adds he may take small reductions from several areas.

Corroon had threatened to veto a $1.4 million budget increase for the District Attorney's office if the council didn't cut at least $250,000 from it. As part of the compromise, the council has agreed to cut $200,000 from the DA's budget.
