Corroon: West Bench Development Won't Mean Financial Windfall
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Even though an estimated $12 billion in taxes and fees from west bench development will be generated between 2010 and 2060, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says local governments shouldn't expect a financial windfall.Corroon says the money estimated by a University of Utah study will be nice, however much of it will go to pay for new schools, recreation centers, libraries, parks and other amenities for the 600,000 residents expected to come with that growth.
Kennecott Land owns the nearly 80,000 acres pegged for development on the west bench. Corroon says having one owner and one plan is a major advantage because it allows infrastructure planning well in advance.
