Mail-In Voter Registration Deadline for Presidential Primary Nearing
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) If you're planning to participate in the Western Presidential Primary Election on February 5th, you must register to vote by January 29th. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says those hoping to register by mail must do so by Monday of next week."There are forms online, on page 48 of the white pages, or in post offices and libraries," says Swensen, "As long as voters have them postmarked by Monday, January 7th, they can register by mail."
Since the Western Presidential Primary is a nominating function for political parties, each party sets its own rules for the election. To participate in the Republican election, voters must be a registered Republican or unaffiliated with another party and willing to affiliate with the Republican Party. Those wanting to participate in the Democratic primary must either be a registered Democrat or unaffiliated with another party. The Democratic Party doesn't require unaffiliated voters to affiliate with the party. More information is available online at www.clerk.slco.org.
