Midday Metro starts after the 10 a.m. news

Response to an emergency call depends on the skills of a select group of public safety personnel - dispatchers. Midday Metro talks dispatch with Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank and dispatch supervisor Jen Albrecht, who was on duty during the Olympics, the 1999 tornado, and the Elizabeth Smart and Destiny Norton cases.

Midday Metro checks in with Thomas Burr, senior reporter in the paper's Washington bureau. Burr's on assignment, covering Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his final push in Iowa. Plus Caucus 101 and grassroots politics in the 2008 presidential campaign with Matt Burbank, Chair of the Political Science Department at the University of Utah. Burbank is co-author of Political Parties, Interest Groups, and Political Campaigns.

Did you know that elevated levels of radon gas can occur in three out of every ten homes in Utah? And that exposure to indoor radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers? January is National Radon Action Month. Midday Metro talks about radon testing and cleanup with John Hultquist of the Department of Environmental Quality.
