State Board of Education to Clarify Adequate Yearly Progress Appeals Process Today

None by Elizabeth Ziegler

(KCPW News) State school officials hope today to clear up confusion among school districts about how to appeal Adequate Yearly Progress results. State Superintendent Patti Harrington explains that some Utah school districts have been using the state's guidelines for the appeals process, but others have stuck by the federal rules.

Each state must have its own set of rules, also known as a workbook, that governs how school districts will comply with the federal No Child Left Behind Act. But Harrington says the State Office of Education omitted some of the federal provisions regarding the appeals process in the Utah workbook.  She says the issue should be cleared up at the State Board of Education meeting today.  Also at today's State Board of Education meeting, officials will unveil (unveiled) the latest standardized test results and state graduation rates.
