Utah Population and Jobs Grow in 2007

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) More people made Utah their home in 2007 than ever before according to the 2008 Economic Report to the Governor. With nearly 85,000 new people, the state experienced the largest single year population growth in its history. Juliette Tennert, Chief Economist in the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget, says 2007 marked the first time this decade Utah has ranked in the top three states in population growth.

Job opportunities are one reason for that growth. Utah added 55,000 jobs in 2007, an average of 150 jobs per day. The largest percentages of those jobs were added in natural resources and mining, and construction. While home construction weakened in 2007, non-residential construction remained strong.

The report shows the state's home price appreciation was the highest in the nation and Utah is one of only two states to reach double-digit appreciation. Click here to view the 2008 Economic Report to the Governor.
