Utah Job Growth Slowing
Jan 15, 2008 by Elizabeth Ziegler
(KCPW News) Employment figures released Tuesday by Utah's Department of Workforce Services indicate the state's impressive job growth slowed slightly in December. And, the department's chief economist, Mark Knold, says the downward trend will likely continue, fueled by a slow-down in the state's housing market. But it is not certain yet, whether the slow-down will affect other industries as well.
Utah's job growth continues to outpace the national figure by three times the national rate at 3.6 percent. But the local job rate fell three-tenths of a point in December, compared to the previous month. Utah's unemployment rate jumped unexpectedly in December to 3.2 percent, mostly fueled by unemployment claims in construction-related industries.
