one asks feds to fix problem, other considers state's respose

(KCPW News) State lawmakers will consider Utah's role in immigration reform during the upcoming Legislative Session, when considering two proposed bills.

Already gaining bi-partisan support is a resolution calling on Congress to fix the problem. Another bill proposes launching a Task Force to study the state's role, and whether Utah should continue to provide social services to illegal immigrants. Both bills have the support of the United Way. The organization's board chairman Scott Anderson says the state's economy benefits from illegal immigrants working here and in return, it has a responsibility to support them.

To hear more on United Way's immigration initiatives, listen to today's [Wednesday's] MidDay Metro podcast here. The task force legislation is available here, but the resolution legislation has not yet been posted. To follow the resolution's progress, click here.
