Salt Lake County Needs More Poll Workers

Jan 17, 2008 by Jeff Robinson

(KCPW News) Voters could face long lines if Salt Lake County doesn't get at least 350 more volunteers to work the polls for the February 5th primary election. County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says 2,100 volunteers are needed altogether.

Swensen says she expects up to 40 percent turnout for this primary. That's much higher than the turnout in 2000, when the primary was so late that the national outcome had already been decided. Additional polling places have been opened for the election.

Workers will be paid either $120 or $220 for their service, depending on which position they volunteer for. The higher-paying positions require more training.

If you're interested in volunteering, call the county clerk's office at 468-3477.
