318 Bills Read on Opening Day
(KCPW News) A bill's journey through the Legislature begins on the floor of the House and Senate, when it is first read into the Legislative record. That journey began Monday morning for 318 of the more than 1000 bills expected this session. Some of those will be considered this week in committee.
First up, the Education Committee considers a plan to give "critically needed" math and science teachers a $5,000 dollar-raise, and whether to extend the school year. The Health and Human Services Committee considers a smoking ban for drivers with children in the car and removing the enrollment cap from the state's Children's Health Insurance Program. Committee meetings start bright and early every day at 8 a.m. A link to the schedule is available on our Web-site, kcpw.org.
