Utah Important for Democrats on Super Tuesday

Jan 29, 2008 by Jeff Robinson

(KCPW News) The tight presidential races on both the Republican and Democratic sides mean Utah's finally on the map this election. University of Utah political science professor Matthew Burbank says that's especially true on the Democratic side. Burbank says there's been a significant increase in fundraising and advertising.

Although competition is just as tight for the Republicans, there's been much less activity. Burbank says the contenders basically see campaigning here as futile, because of Mitt Romney's ties to Utah, although there was fundraising early on.

Professor Burbank says the process of frontloading primary elections - moving them as early as possible - has become very widespread. For the Democrats in Utah, the delegates are awarded proportionally based on the popular vote. For the Republicans, the winner of the state gets all the delegates.

Governor Romney will be in Salt Lake this Saturday to attend LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley's funeral. Senator Barack Obama's campaign canceled an event on Saturday because of the funeral.

The media is so manipulating the news that there is no reason for reading for the whole truth is there? No one will change washington. It is too established. It will take a flood to wipe out the system. It will take a whole new election of brand new senators and representatives to establish a new system. Check the history we are doomed to repeat it?

In the words of Homer Simpson: I say to Tommy: "Not with that attitude." If your views are so pessimistic with the future of our government, you have three options: enact your own revolt, move to a different country with a more desirable government, or do nothing. Good luck!
