County Unveils Solar Energy Study
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Salt Lake County is getting started on its goal of reducing energy costs by 20% in its buildings. Over the next six months, the county will study the feasibility and viability of using solar energy systems in 28 buildings, including the government center, convention centers, libraries, and recreation facilities.Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says the time has come to look at alternative ways to power those buildings and improve air quality. Funding for the $100,000 study was set-aside in last year's budget.
The county is also pursuing legislation that would allow the construction of large-scale solar energy systems at the Salt Palace Convention Center, the South Towne Expo Center and the county jail. A second study will determine how to finance the prospective solar energy systems.
