Utah's Math and Science Teachers May Receive Salary Hike

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Utah's math and science teachers could soon receive a $5,000 raise should a measure pass Utah's House of Representatives. Senate Bill 35 appropriates $7 million of ongoing money from the state's Uniform School Fund to cover the raises. The money would go to upper level math and science teachers who hold a degree in the subject. Republican Senator Howard Stephenson of Draper, the measure's sponsor, says the bill breaks the deadlock of the teacher salary structure and ensures math and science teachers are paid more than physical education teachers are. The measure passed the Senate yesterday with a 19 to 7 vote and now goes to the House.
