Becker Reorganizes City's Planning Division
Mar 04, 2008 by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Sticking with a promise he made during his run for office, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker announced major changes to the city's Planning Division yesterday."It will include getting a new director in the planning office. It will also involve some reorganization and some movement that I think is going to be very helpful in terms of moving us quickly towards what the people in Salt Lake expect with our planning, zoning and building services," says Becker.
The reorganization means the departure of acting Planning Director George Shaw, whose last day was yesterday. Becker says there will be a nationwide search for his replacement. The changes also include the formation of a one-stop-shop for city planning and zoning services, and extending the office hours from 7am to 5pm. Becker has also added an Ordinance Review and Resolution work group to the division, and he has removed two layers of management in order to streamline the division's decision making.
