Price Hosts Rural Business Conference

Mar 24, 2008 by Elizabeth Ziegler

(KCPW News) A conference on rural business convenes Tuesday in Price. Carbon County Economic Development Director Delynn Fielding says the conference is an important opportunity to hear from experts about how to thrive in a rural economy.

"We make a great deal of effort to involve a great deal of effort to involve as many local businesses as we possibly can in participating and benefitting from the conference," Fielding says. "It's just an important thing for the local businesses to participate in and to learn from."

Senator Bob Bennett and the Utah Rural Development Council are sponsoring the event. Bennett started the rural business conference in 2002. Since then it has traveled to Cedar City, St. George, Richfield, Price, Vernal and Logan. This year's topics will include discussions on what attracts corporations to open plants in rural Utah, how to network to create business opportunities in a rural setting, energy development and the rising cost of health care.

"The materials that are disseminated, the ideas that are given will have an immediate impact on the businesses - something they can apply and find useful the next day and start benefiting from the conference the very next day," Fielding says.

The conference runs Tuesday and Wednesday. More than 400 people have registered to attend from throughout the state. It is the second time Price has hosted Bennett's rural business conference.
