IRS 'Super Saturday' To Assist Retirees, Low-Income Earners With Stimulus Rebate
Mar 27, 2008 by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) The Internal Revenue Service estimates that more than 100,000 Utah residents don't normally file a tax return. However, that will have to change if those people wish to receive the economic stimulus payments the IRS will begin distributing in May."These are individuals who receive Social Security, railroad retirement, disabled veterans benefits that are non-taxable, and some individuals who are below a filing threshold," says IRS spokesman Bill Brunson.
Brunson says the only way to receive the stimulus money is to file a 2007 tax return. The IRS is hoping to help these people by opening several of its local offices on Saturday to assist with filings.
"Also there are community tax assistance sites. We are going to be in Magna, Clearfield, Beaver, and even St. George. People can go to these locations and get a tax return for the stimulus payment filed at no cost," says Brunson.
Here in Utah, the following IRS offices are open on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
Ogden IRS Office; 324 25th St.
Provo IRS Office; 173 E. 100 North
Salt Lake City IRS Office - Social Hall Plaza; 50 S. 200 East
The following sites located across Utah will be open to provide tax assistance, on a first come - first serve basis, on Saturday, March 29:
Beaver, UT; Beaver City Library; 55 West Center; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Clearfield, UT; Clearfield City; 55 S State; Application Rm.; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
