Group Protests Outside McCain Fundraiser
Mar 27, 2008 by Jeff Robinson
(KCPW News) While John McCain was at the Grand America Hotel this morning to raise money with Mitt Romney, just over a dozen demonstrators were out front to protest his stance on the war. Air Force veteran George Muller with Veterans for Peace organized the event. He says having Senator McCain in the White House would be like having four more years of President Bush, and for him, that's not a good thing."He knows that Bush's policies are pretty much a failed policy," he said. "I'd like to see him state that publicly, that Bush's policy was absolutely failed and we made the biggest mistake by going in there."
Muller says he supports having a strong military, and believes the troops could be put to better use in Afghanistan.
Protestor Rita Jackson, who worked for the Army as a civilian, also supports the war in Afghanistan but says Iraq had nothing to do with the terrorist threat.
"I am opposed to wasting the best young men and women we have in a useless war," said Jackson. "I want to avoid having McCain as our president because we'll get the same old crap from him."
On Wednesday, McCain delivered a speech on foreign policy that emphasized the importance of keeping troops in Iraq, but was interpreted by political analysts to be a departure from President Bush's strategy of so-called unilateral diplomacy.
