(KCPW News) College students from across the state will gather Saturday at the University of Utah for the first statewide convention of the newly formed College Democrats of Utah."I'm hoping this will represent a C change in that students who were formally apathetic will become more interested long term and realize that they've seen in this election cycle that they do make a difference," says Juli Huddleston, Caucus Vice-Chair of the College Democrats of Utah.
Huddleston says interest in the current race for the Presidential Democratic nomination will likely trigger student interest in state level elections.
Aaron Curtis, a BYU student and the organization's Caucus Chair, says in the past it's been difficult to get college students to vote because many of them have moved away from home and into communities they don't feel part of.
"Many college students don't get involved in politics or in their party because they don't think that they really belong," says Curtis. "What were hoping to do with this organization is reach out to students and tell them everyone is welcome here and tell them how to get involved."
Saturday's College Democrats of Utah convention begins at noon at the Olpin Student Union at the U. Representative David Litvack of Salt Lake County will give the keynote address.
