Meet with Delegates Across the State
(KCPW News) The six Republican challengers to Congressman Jim Matheson in the 2nd District will have a tough enough time unseating the Democrat, who won by nearly 50,000 votes in 2006. On top of that, they'll have to face each other first. Former homebuilder Bill Dew has been busy meeting with delegates."We've been holding breakfasts at Einstein Bagels in the morning, inviting people from one or two legislative districts to come and meet me," he said. "Those have been very successful. I've been learning what they're concerned about.
Dew considers himself a front runner, but says former Congressman Merrill Cook is the one to beat. He says party officials told him it'd be a very challenging race, but have been encouraging.
Trucker and former corporate manager Donald Ferguson says he's mainly been focusing on county conventions, balancing his job and the campaign.
"I know one of the other candidates has been going around Salt Lake County with one of his sons, talking to delegates personally," he said. "I'm a working man. I have a family to support. I'm not a retired millionaire."
The Salt Lake County GOP convention will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at the South Towne Expo Center.
