First Major Election Uses Diebold Voting Machines
(KCPW News) Former Salt Lake County elections director Michael Vu is now head of the 15th largest election jurisdiction in the country. Cuyahoga County, Ohio - which includes Cleveland - is twice the size of Salt Lake County. Last week, Vu's jurisdiction held the first large-scale election in the nation using the new electronic voting machines. The machines, made by Diebold systems, are identical to those Utah voters will use in the upcoming primary. KCPW's Julie Rose spoke with Vu about lessons learned and his advice for Utah elections officials. Interestingly, he says Ohio voters took to the electronic machines quite well, but the poll workers struggled:
Former Salt Lake County elections official Michael Vu is now director of elections for the largest county in Ohio. He recently oversaw the country's first election with electronic voting machines identical to those Utah will use. Vu is consulting with Salt Lake County officials to help them learn from his experience in preparation for Utah's upcoming primaries in June.
