12 Apply to Lead New Jordan School District

(KCPW News) Twelve candidates from eight states have applied to lead the new east-side school district splitting off of the Jordan District. It is a major step toward independence, says Rickie McCandless of the new district's Education Transition Team.
"Because the superintendent really is their key CEO, it will be a big step for them to choose who's going to lead that charge and support them and assist them in putting together the new district," McCandless says.
The new school board, and not the Education Transition Team, will ultimately decide which candidate to hire, she says. Now that voters have elected three new board members to join the four plucked from the remaining Jordan School Board, she says the new school board will work quickly to select a superintendent. McCandless says the board is expected to announce a finalist at the August 19 board meeting, so the new superintendent can start work by early September.
"As far as the Education Transition Team and the election of a new board, we're moving forward," McCandless says. "And our read is that the split will occur. We are not anticipating a special session that's been requested. We have high hopes that the transition team can come to a resolution."
The next step for the Education Transition Team is to advertise for applicants to fill administrative positions, including the new district's business administrator, human resources manager and public information officer. As for a new name for the new district, McCandless says the board is considering asking district patrons for suggestions.
