Shurtleff Asks FTC to Examine Alcohol Ads Targeted at Youth

(KCPW News) Top law enforcement officials nationwide have a sneaking suspicion that alcohol purveyors are targeting youth with their advertisements. Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has joined 19 of his counterparts in other states calling on the Federal Trade Commission to take a hard look at how alcohol ads may promote underage drinking."We believe the current industry standard overexposes youth to alcohol advertising and this this is unacceptable," says Shurtleff.
Another alarming statistic driving the investigation is the earlier age at which American youth are starting to drink. In a letter, 20 attorneys general asked the FTC to investigate the amount of money alcohol advertisers spend on media with a young demographic.
